About Melbourne Golf Physio
Golf-Specific Physiotherapy. Evidence-Based Rehabilitation. Helping You Play Your Best.
Golf is one of the most technically demanding sports on the body. Every swing relies on strength, mobility, balance and coordination working together to generate power, consistency and control. When pain, injury or stiffness gets in the way of that, it doesn't just affect your scorecard, it takes the enjoyment out of a game you love.
Melbourne Golf Physio was founded to give golfers physiotherapy built specifically around the physical demands of the sport. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, every assessment looks for the underlying cause, whether that's restricted hip rotation, thoracic stiffness or a compensation pattern built up over years of play. From there we build a personalised rehabilitation plan so you can return to the course with confidence and reduce the risk of the same injury coming back.
Based at the Brighton Specialist Centre and serving golfers across bayside Melbourne, we work with players at every level: those recovering from injury, those who've stopped playing because of pain that could have been managed, and those simply looking to add distance and reduce stiffness in their swing.
Meet Bethany Robson
TPI Certified Physiotherapist Bethany Robson founded Melbourne Golf Physio after more than 14 years combining evidence-based physiotherapy with elite sporting experience, including work alongside orthopaedic surgeons in the United Kingdom. A former international athlete herself, she understands what it takes to recover from injury and return to competition, and brings that same rigour to every golfer she treats.
Common Golf Injuries We Treat
The repetitive rotational load of the golf swing places predictable stress on specific areas of the body. We regularly see and treat: Lower back pain, neck pain, shoulder and rotator cuff pain, golfer’s elbow, hip pain and restricted rotation, knee pain during the swing, and foot pain including plantar fasciitis.
Why Golfers Trust Melbourne Golf Physio
TPI Certified Assessment
Golf-specific movement screening identifies exactly where your body is limiting your swing, not just where it hurts.
14+ Years of Clinical Experience
Across private practice, elite sport and advanced orthopaedic rehabilitation, including protocol development alongside orthopaedic surgeons in UK Teaching Hospitals.
Research-Grade VALD Technology
Objective, measurable data on strength, mobility and asymmetry, used to track your progress rather than guess at it.
An Athlete's Understanding of Injury
As a former international sailor and multiple national champion, Bethany has lived through the frustration of injury and the discipline required to return to competition.
Care Beyond Golf
While golf performance is our focus, we treat the full range of musculoskeletal conditions, so you don't need to be a competitive golfer to benefit.
Golf-Specific Physiotherapy Services
Every visit starts with understanding how your body moves through the swing, not just where it hurts.

What does a golf physiotherapist do?
A golf physiotherapist assesses how your body moves through the golf swing, identifies physical limitations affecting your power or causing pain, and builds a treatment plan specific to the demands of golf rather than general fitness or everyday activity.
Is there a golf-specific physio near Brighton?
Yes. Melbourne Golf Physio is based at the Brighton Specialist Centre on Bay Street and treats golfers across bayside Melbourne, including Brighton, Hampton, Sandringham, Elwood and surrounding suburbs.
Can I use my Health Insurance?
Yes. If your private health insurance includes physiotherapy extras, you may be eligible to claim a rebate towards your appointment. On-the-spot private health claiming is available at Melbourne Golf Physio, so simply bring your current health fund card or have your digital card available at your appointment.
The amount you can claim varies depending on your health fund and level of cover, so we recommend checking directly with your insurer if you would like to know your rebate before your appointment.
Why should I see Melbourne Golf Physio?
At Melbourne Golf Physio, physiotherapy is about more than treating where it hurts. We take the time to understand you, your injury and what you want to get back to, then build a clear, evidence-based plan around your goals.
Our approach combines comprehensive physiotherapy assessment, hands-on treatment where appropriate, individualised rehabilitation and objective strength testing to help you understand what’s happening, build physical capacity and make meaningful progress.
For golfers, we bring an additional layer of golf-specific knowledge. As a TPI Certified Physiotherapist, we can assess the physical demands of your golf swing and identify areas of strength, mobility or movement that may benefit from further development, working alongside your golf professional where appropriate.
Whether your goal is to move without pain, recover from surgery, return to sport, get back on the course or build your golf performance, our philosophy remains the same: education first, you at the centre, stronger sooner.
How many people have Melbourne Golf Physio helped?
Melbourne Golf Physio may be a new name, but the experience behind it has been built over more than a decade of expert physiotherapy practice.
Our physiotherapist, Bethany Robson, has supported thousands of people through injury, recovery and rehabilitation across elite sport, private practice, orthopaedics and public healthcare, in Australia and the UK, helping them return to the sports, activities and everyday life that matter to them.
That experience now shapes the individualised, evidence-based care at the heart of Melbourne Golf Physio.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is all about understanding you, your injury and what you want to get back to. We’ll start by discussing your symptoms, medical and injury history, current activities and goals before completing a thorough physical assessment tailored to your presentation.
Depending on what we find, your appointment may include movement and strength testing, golf-specific assessment where relevant, hands-on treatment and the start of your individualised rehabilitation program.
Most importantly, we’ll explain what we’ve found in clear, straightforward language. You’ll leave with a better understanding of what may be contributing to your symptoms, what you can do to help, and a clear plan for the next steps in your recovery.
If you have relevant scans, reports or referral letters, please bring them with you. Comfortable clothing that allows us to assess the area easily is also recommended.
How much does a golf physio assessment cost in Melbourne?
Assessment and treatment costs vary depending on the type of consultation and whether ongoing rehabilitation is required. Full pricing details are available on our fees and pricing page.
Do I need to be an experienced golfer to see a golf physio?
No. We treat golfers of all levels, from beginners and social players through to competitive amateurs and professionals, as well as clients with general musculoskeletal injuries unrelated to golf.
